Description

Laurel Ridge Community College is accepting applications for tutor positions on a continuous basis. Tutors are recruited as needed by student demand.

This posting covers tutoring at all Laurel Ridge Community College sites and campuses. These positions are hourly wage and do not guarantee a certain number of hours per week.

The incumbent/s will be working on an as-needed basis; however, all Tutors will have assigned hours to be present for tutoring and will have expected hours of availability for walk-in traffic at the campus or for appointment based online tutoring via video conferencing applications (such as Zoom or Brainfuse). Additionally, Tutors in some subject areas may be assigned to a Laurel Ridge course as an embedded Tutor, which requires the Tutor to attend class, in person or virtually, and to provide additional group study opportunities either in person or virtually.

Provide quality scheduled one-to-one, walk-in, small-group, or classroom tutoring services to students of Laurel Ridge Community College based on a comprehensive understanding of concepts and information in subject areas to be tutored.

Integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize students potential for academic progress.

Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions and all attendees. Provide recordings of all sessions completed through video conferencing applications.

Give consistent feedback to students on achieved progress; exhibit positive regard for student.

Uphold high levels of professionalism and student confidentiality at all times.

Compensation

Laurel Ridge Tutor Scale effective 07/29/22:

Sutdent/Peer: $15.00/hour
Bachelor’s: $20.00/hour
Master’s: $25.00/hour
Doctoral: $30.00/hour

The position is part time and as such cannot exceed 29 hours per week and is not eligible for health or leave benefits. However, the position may offer educational benefits through our professional development and educational assistance policies.

Telework
According to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. Consistent with pre-pandemic policies, telework may be an option for certain eligible positions. Eligible positions are determined by the type of work and job requirements of the position, as defined by heads of agencies. Positions requiring more than two days of telework weekly will require approval from the Department of Education’s Cabinet Secretary. Positions requiring more than two days of telework weekly require approval from the Office of the Governor’s Chief of Staff.

Minimum Qualifications Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Able to be present for tutoring either in-person or online during expected hours of availability, including spontaneous tutoring for walk-in traffic at the campus

Final grade of “A” or “B” in desired course(s) to tutor from an accredited college or university.

Completion of a minimum of 12 college or university credits.

Laurel Ridge faculty recommendation for each desired course to tutor OR documented evidence of tutoring/instructional experience in an academic setting and transcripts demonstrating successful completion of each course.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in tutoring, may be peer tutoring in an educational setting or individual tutoring in a professional setting.
